I want my cat’s claws to be ingrown and razor sharp

comfortable, Safe around my family, and maybe even pretty

Nail Trims

Nail trims are included in every spa day at Cashmere Cat Spa. Nail trims help keep cats healthy, as sometimes claws can thicken up uncomfortably and get ingrown, especially in senior cats.

Nail trims also help keep life comfy for families, with reduced snagging of fabrics and no more painful pinpricks on your lap when your cat is kneading.

Sometimes people wonder if cats will get upset at not having sharp claws. This is not the case—cats with clipped nails still happily scratch their scratching posts and have even been observed climbing. Nail trims don’t affect mood either—cats don’t appear to notice the difference.

Nail Caps

In some special cases, we will advise the use of vinyl nail caps. Sometimes, despite environmental and behavioral interventions (such as adequately placed scratching posts and training efforts), cats just cannot resist scratching furniture. This is especially common for couches, ottomans, and chairs upholstered in bouclé fabric.

Nail caps cover the pointy end of the claw and are adhered using a nontoxic cat-safe adhesive. They do not cover the whole claw and therefore do not interfere with retraction of the claws.

Nail caps can also be used for cats with sensitive or itchy skin who tend to get hotspots or scratch themselves until they bleed, especially during the periods when you are trying out allergy medicines, new food, or environmental changes to address the underlying cause.

We require cat guardians to set follow-up spa appointments 6 weeks after nail cap application for removal and reapplication, because nail caps can prevent claws from sloughing off normally, causing the nails to grow into the paw pad if they are left untended for too long.

If you think nail caps are appropriate for your cat, please book a consultation to discuss it with us!
